Mission & Vision
GAHINGA Technology University (GTU) is envisioned as a center of Academic Excellence for High-Tech Research, Innovation, and Societal Transformation. It seeks to empower learners with knowledge, skills, and transformative techniques to become the “salt of the earth and light of the world.” Located at the foot of Mt. Muhabura in Kisoro District, GTU aims to catalyze poverty eradication, drive socio-economic transformation, and make Kisoro the Silicon Valley of Africa.
The Aims of the University
GTU aims to lead the way in science and technology education by exploring and generating new knowledge, skills, and technologies to serve humanity and the environment. The University will focus on fields like Engineering, ICT, AI, Agriculture, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship — nurturing innovators who can drive sustainable development and societal change.
Strategic Objectives
GTU’s objectives include becoming a center of excellence for technology research, fostering a mindset that embraces science and technology, developing multidisciplinary learning, and driving poverty eradication through innovation. The university aims to produce highly skilled professionals and form partnerships with industries and institutions for student growth.
Educational Philosophy
Grounded in the African philosophy of Ubuntu, GTU’s educational approach integrates technology, research, and teaching to nurture innovators with character and empathy. The philosophy promotes deep critical thinking, flexibility, and real-world problem-solving, ensuring holistic development for both students and the communities they serve.
Planned Colleges
GAHINGA Technology University plans to establish several colleges, including Science & Engineering, Business & Entrepreneurship, Educational Sciences, Environment & Agriculture, Community Development, Languages & Digital Transformation, Health Sciences, and New Evangelization — each contributing to holistic national and regional growth.
Action Plan & Time Frame
GTU’s roadmap includes application for NCHE authority (October 2025), feasibility studies, architectural designs, and groundbreaking in December 2025. Recruitment and research are ongoing, with provisional licensing expected by July 2026 and official launch in December 2026. Teaching is projected to begin in August 2027.
